The Delegate Scholarship Program

The Delegate Scholarship Program was enacted into law by the Maryland General Assembly in 1957 (§ 18-501 of the Business Article, Annotated Code of Maryland). The Scholarship Program provides funds for enrollment in undergraduate, graduate or professional studies at approved colleges, universities and private career (or vocational) schools in the State of Maryland.

 

 

To be eligible for a Delegate Michael Jackson Scholarship, applicants MUST LIVE IN THE 27B DISTRICT.

 

 

COMPLETE AND FILE THE APPLICATION FOR A DELEGATE SCHOLARSHIP: The application must be completed and filed by the deadline. The Scholarship Committee will not consider an incomplete or late application.

 

COMPLETE AND FILE THE FAFSA (APPLICATION FOR FINANCIAL AID):

This form may be obtained from high school guidance counselors, in high school libraries, or from the Maryland Higher Education Commission

The FAFSA should be filed no later than March 1, 2019 to ensure the Scholarship Committee’s receipt of the applicant’s financial aid information in a timely manner.

 

PLAN TO ATTEND A MARYLAND COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY, and OR PRIVATE SCHOOL:

The applicant must attend a college, university, or private school in the State of Maryland or have a unique major.   

 

PLAN TO ATTEND SCHOOL FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME:

Full-time attendance is defined as 12 credits per semester for undergraduate and 9 credits per semester for graduate students. Part-time attendance is defined as 6 to 11 credits per semester for undergraduates and 6 to 8 credits per semester for graduate students.

 

Selection Criteria:

Selection is based on a combination of factors, not solely on grade point average. All students are encouraged to apply. The selection of scholarship recipients will be based on the following:

  1. Financial Need: Will not be  considered as part of the selection process

  2. 100 word essay describing your career goals and aspirations: 

  3. Resume

 

Your application must be postmarked by June 7, 2019 and include all three (3) of the above in order for your application to be complete. An incomplete application will not be considered.

 

Please Note:  After you have submitted your application, there is no need to contact Delegate Michael Jackson’s office as you will be notified by August 2019 via mail to advise you of the decision by the Scholarship Committee of your award or non-award.
